Whyalla Ecocity Information Centre

Multiple, layered shade elements and non-traditional forms are part of the EcoCity Information Feature design.

These illustrations show one of the original sketches for the project, as well as the model under construction and completed - at 1:20 scalde the model was also the 'working drawing' equivalent to inform the mud-brick builder about the curving, three-dimensional form.

The roofs and walls, pergolas and water features, vegetation and choices of materials are all intended to create a micro-climate of a moderated, comfortable environment in a hot, arid place.

The Information Feature represents, in microcosm, the principles of ecologically responsive urbanism at work in which the environments behind and between buildings are as important as the buildings themselves, and in which energy, water and resources are conserved whilst maintaining human comfort and nurturing the spirit.
